LT Theatre Board presents The 24 Hour Plays

For the first time in the history of LT theatre, students will present "The 24 Hour Plays," plays written, produced and performed in a single day. Performances are April 27 at 7pm.

For the first time in the history of Lyons Township High School theatre, students will present “The 24 Hour Plays,” plays written, produced and performed in a single day. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 7pm in the South Campus Performing Arts Center, 2900 S. Willow Springs Rd., Western Springs. Tickets are $10 each, $5 for children and senior citizens, and free to LT students with their ID. Tickets may be purchased at the box office before the show. The theatre opens at 6:30pm and the show starts promptly at 7pm.  Latecomers will not be seated.

Plays are written, directors selected, roles cast, productions rehearsed and plays performed --all within 24 hours. The process begins immediately after “Tens by Teens,” (LT’s production of student written and produced plays) closes Friday, April 26. Nine student writers will be locked into the South Campus Discovery Center to write their plays. Approximately nine hours later, at 7am on Saturday morning, student directors will cast the plays and call the actors at 8am with their parts. The actors and directors will work all day on the show; the writers will see the show later in the day for feedback. The audience will see the plays that evening at 7pm.

The 24 Hours Plays is a nationally recognized theatrical event produced by theatres around the country. Writers overcome writers’ block, actors overcome stage fright, and directors gain the confidence to take control of a rehearsal quickly and assertively. English teacher and play producer Lawrence Keller says, “The 24 Hour Plays will provide playwriting students an opportunity to create original work in a concentrated period of time. The students, including the writers, directors and actors, will have to expedite their pace and make choices. It’s a whirlwind of a theatre experience.”
