LT's PSI Club fills in as Easter bunny

The Lyons Township High School Peaceable Schools Initiative (PSI) Club recently filled more than 100 Easter Baskets for needy children.

The Lyons Township High School Peaceable Schools Initiative (PSI) Club recently filled more than 100 Easter Baskets for needy children at the Off the Streets Club, Chicago’s oldest boys and girls club, and delivered 10 baskets to the Constance Morris House in LaGrange.

All supplies -- baskets/buckets, toys, books, art supplies, snacks, and more– were donated by LTHS staff, students and community members. A special thanks to LT’s Humanities classes for collecting donations and ordering 72 baskets to fill and to the girls’ softball team for donating several already-made baskets. Generous community member Laura Gatland, donated a large bag of books, LT Student Assistant Joe Morici donated three boxes of school supplies and LT teacher Natalie Carlson collected donations and purchased juice and treats.

According to science teacher and PSI sponsor Carol Promisel, “The Off the Street Club children who came to pick up the baskets were so polite and grateful. It was very heart-warming to see the LT students interact with the children. There was an abundance of smiles and hugs.”

PSI Club creates a positive, comfortable, and supportive learning environment for all. Through improved conflict resolution and communication skills of students and staff alike, LT works together to improve the way conflict is handled in our school and community.

The Off the Street Club in West Garfield Park provides a safe, supportive environment where the neighborhood's 4- to 18-year-olds can do their homework or play computer games in the Learning Center; perform plays in the Performing Arts Center; dance, roller skate, sing, and play musical instruments; express themselves through arts and crafts and woodshop; and more.
