Menagerie literary magazine receives top award in nationwide contest

Congratulations are in order for the art, poetry and prose staffs of the Lyons Township High School literary magazine, Menagerie.

Congratulations are in order for the art, poetry and prose staffs of the Lyons Township High School literary magazine, Menagerie. The 2012 publication recently received the American Scholastic Press Association’s highest award, First Place with Special Merit. Additionally, Menagerie received an award for Outstanding Art.

 

LT's Menagerie was one of only eight schools in the 2501+ enrollment category to win the highest award. Menagerie also was one of just 11 magazines to be recognized with outstanding artwork. 2012 graduate Julia Sokolovski was named the winning artist for her three works in the magazine.

In the ASPA contest, each school magazine is scored on a point system and is awarded a first, second or third place. Those school publications with special and outstanding design and content receive a First Place with Special Merit.

According to Menagerie Art Advisor Mary Rohlicek, “Menagerie has a dedicated student staff who works to produce a high-quality magazine that highlights both writing and artwork.  The art staff takes special care to use a unifying layout format with artwork that matches the tone of the written pieces.”

 

Menagerie sponsors include literary advisors James Maffey and Angela Gutierrez and art advisor Mary Rohlicek.
