The combination of melted snow and rain could result in rising streams and rivers in Cook and DuPage counties this weekend, according to a National Weather Service advisory.

Rain totals between one-half of an inch and three-quarters of an inch are expected Friday. Temperatures Saturday are expected to reach the mid-30s, while Sunday's high is 42.

"Flooding is not a certainty at this time, but the potential does exist," the National Weather Service advisory reads. "Residents along area streams and in low lying flood prone areas in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana should continue to closely monitor this developing weather system and be alert for the possibility of flooding this weekend and extending into next week until colder temperatures return."
