How Long is the ER Wait at Nearby Hospitals?

New Medicare database shows how hospitals across serving the Chicago area — and the rest of the nation — compare for care. Wait times at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital are slightly less than the state average.

If you go to the emergency room at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, how long will it take before you see a healthcare professional? The federal government says 29 minutes on average, just four minutes less than the state average according to a new database causing some hospital officials nationwide to cringe. At Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, the average ER wait time is 28 minutes, while at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, patients can expect to wait 74 minutes, which is more than double the state and national average. Key measures of ER efficiency have been posted from hospitals taking part across the country (not every hospital reported data), according to a report by Cheryl Clark, now senior quality editor for …

During this past flu season, my personal doctor sent me to the La Grange ER. After waiting for close to three hours in the waiting room, there was still a two hour wait to be seen by anyone other than the triage nurse. I left without being seen, as did two other couples who were also of Medicare age. All of the available seats were occupied by coughing children. These families didn't have family …   more ›

La Grange Park Boy Born at 12:12 on 12-12-12 in Hinsdale

The birth of Charles “Charlie” Kevin Mitchell at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital was not induced and was unique to the hospital.

At 12:12 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2012—12-12-12—Charles “Charlie” Kevin Mitchell was born to La Grange Park parents Mark and Jennifer Mitchell at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, the Doings Western Springs reports. The proud parents told the paper that Charlie’s birth was not induced, though he arrived nearly 10 days late. A hospital employee said that seven other babies were born that day, but none at a 12:12 time. “I knew it was near noon, but after that, I wasn’t watching the clock,” Jennifer Mitchell told the paper. Charlie landed the last chance for a very long time to have such a unique birthday and time. Because there are only 12 months in the year, the next repeating time of such a pattern won’t be until 1:01 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2101 (01-01-01.) …

Families Celebrate at Neonatal Graduate Reunion

Adventist Hinsdale Hospital throws a wild west theme party for families of children born too soon.

The honored guests had been born too soon. There was a time when they wouldn't have made it. Thanks to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the area's tiniest newborns were given a chance at life, and they came back to Hinsdale to celebrate. About 400 guests came to the 15th annual Neonatal Graduate Reunion at the Community House on Sept. 12. This year's theme was "Wild West Adventure." Children were treated to cowboy hats and sheriff badges. The smallest babies to survive were born at 24-25 weeks; a normal pregnancy runs about 40 weeks. "The staff loves to see the parents and babies again when they are healthy and grown up. It's a reunion for the parents who bonded in the unit. The parents can show their …
