2010-11 postseason begins promisingly for
No. 10 ranked Lions with win over Dusable
The Lyons Township girls basketball team faced extreme difficulty when it met DuSable in the opening round of the 2010-11 IHSA postseason, falling 56-48 to conclude its mainly inconsistent year. Lyons’ boys team experienced no such difficulty Wednesday night. The Lions (24-2) handily dispatched DuSable, 72-45, in its opening playoff game, held at Brother Rice High School, to advance to the regional final Friday evening at 6 p.m. against the regional hosts. “It’s important to start out [in the playoffs] well,” Lyons big man Nick Burt said. “We want to keep good habits so that we can improve each game.” Burt, along with the eight other senior Lions, recognizes that at this stage, the squad could be taking the court for the final time. “There…

30 point scoring outburst books Lyons’ spot
in holiday tournament championship
Lyons Township's Nick Zeisloft came into Wednesday's Jack Tosh Holiday Classic semifinal matchup against Brother Rice holding a late Christmas present for the Crusaders. "Our intensity [as a team], especially on the defensive end has been key to our success so far," Zeisloft said. "The tougher our defense is, the better chance we have at coming out with a win." Senior LT guard …

While that didn't change in the quarterfinal round of the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic—held at York High School— on Tuesday, Egwu's game high 22 points weren't enough to overcome a persistent Lyons Township squad, which emerged victorious, 62-58. "St. Ignatius is a very, very good team and we had to play a different type of defense [against them] than we did against Conant [yesterday]," Lyons head Coach Tom Sloan said. "We played man to man defense in the half court, they hit some big shots, but that was a big fourth quarter for us." …
