With New Business Plan, La Grange Park Looks to Revitalize Commerce

The Village has approved a detailed schematic for bettering its relationship with its businesses, attracting new ones and improving business prospects overall.

A commercial revitalization plan passed by the La Grange Park Board of Trustees in January promises that the Village will begin taking a number of steps to make La Grange Park more commerce-friendly and to better serve the Village’s approximately 100 businesses.  The plan includes a list of nearly 40 action-items for the Village to take—some already completed, others extremely long-term—and levels them based on immediacy in an “implementation matrix.” Items on the list range from the simple (hold more ribbon-cuttings and send press releases, attend Village meetings and industry events, better use e-briefs and the Rose Clippings newsletter to promote businesses) to the complex and far-off (develop a marketing campaign for Village businesses…

Ask a Stylist: What Hairstyle is in this Holiday Season?

In the latest edition of Patch's "Ask a Stylist" series, Salon Hype owner Ross Bartolomei tackles hairstyles for the holiday season.

Every so often on Patch, Salon Hype owner Ross Bartolomei answers a question about the ubiquitous discussion topic that is our hair.  Got a question for Ross? Email it to joe.odonnell@patch.com. Question: What's in for holiday hair in 2012? Answer: Holiday hair is fun and 60s inspired this season. With this look you definitely want to show off your neck line and shoulders. Hair is off the face slightly, teased on top, and pulled back into a pony tail. With the pony tail, there are a couple of options. It can be curled, and I'm talking about spiral, large loose curls, or the pony tail can be loosely braided down off the front of one shoulder. I recommend visiting your local beauty supply store and look for clip-in hair pieces. These are …

Former Pancake House Leveled in La Grange Park

The structure, built in 1951, was torn down last week; a property manager for the lot says there are many options for what might go in the space.

The former site of an Original Pancake House on La Grange Road that closed in 2007 was leveled last week in order to make room for potential new commercial development in La Grange Park, the Doings La Grange reports. Although there was much interest in the one-story building, according to the paper, it was ultimately unattractive to tenants because it lacked handicap accessibility, modern sprinklers and an elevator to the basement.  “Now one of our prime goals is to have people come by and have a vision for what the site could be," Peter Barritt, property manager for TBZ Realty & Management Corp, told the paper. "It’s not locked into the most recent use... We don’t know at this point.” Read the full story at the Doings Western Springs …

When did this pancake house really close? It closed way before 2007. I think it was around 1997 when it closed. Feedback please.   more ›

Beautiful Beginnings Reopens in Full After Two Years

After two years in Oak Brook, the store of quality gifts for babies and young children is holding a grand opening of its newly remodeled Lawn Avenue home.

The recession of the last few years has cost the Western Springs downtown several stores and businesses. This weekend, it’s getting one back. Beautiful Beginnings, the store at 4472 Lawn Ave. “celebrating baby and child” has returned in its original form, with a pastel interior filled with everything a parent could want for stylishly outfitting a boy or girl up to the age of four. The store, which first opened in Western Springs 17 years ago and has a second location in Chicago, pulled up and moved to the Oak Brook shopping center in early 2010 in response to the effects of the economic downswing, hoping to find better success in a highly-concentrated commercial district. It didn’t fully pan out. “We found out that we are not a mall type …

Fireside: La Grange's Newest Pizza Joint Opens Today

Fireside, La Grange's new brick oven pizza joint, opens on Harris Avenue today.

If you're looking to put the flame back in your relationship, you might want to try doing it with a wood burning brick oven this Valentine's Day. They do say after all, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Just in time for Valentine's Day, is the opening of Fireside Wood Fired Pizza & Cafe, located at 18 W. Harris Ave. in downtown La Grange. Fireside officially opens for business today, and they're expecting a big turnout. The restaurant is a fast casual concept, which means there's a table if you want to bring the family in for dinner, but there's no server. It also means you wont have to wait long for your food. Fireside can cook up a pizza in two minutes in their 700-degree oven, imported from Italy.  Fireside specializes in…
