About 45,000 runners from every U.S. state and 115 countries participated in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Sunday. Ethiopian Tsegaye Kebede had the top finish in the marathon at 2:04:38, breaking the course record set last year by Kenya's Moses Mosop, according to the Chicago Tribune. 46 runners from La Grange, 42 from Western Springs and 36 from La Grange Park completed the marathon this year. The youngest was Stephen Mahar, 16, of Western Springs (05:08:48); the oldest was Paula Kapral, 60, also from Western Springs (04:19:22.) The 2010 Chicago Marathon, held on October 10 and sponsored by Bank of America, will showcase almost 40,000 runners from across the country. For several Western Springs residents however, the Marathon is particularly special. Kelly Lansing, a local wife, mother and avid runner, has partaken in 10 marathons since 2003, starting with the New York Marathon and including the fabled Boston marathon three times. Chicago will be her 10th (on 10-10-10) 26.2 mile trek in less than a decade, and she doesn't intend to quit anytime soon. "I'll do one or two a year, I won't do four a year again because that's a lot," Lansing said. "I just love running. It's been such a passionate thing of mine for so long.
