Online Shopping Safety Tips: Secure Your Devices, Know Your Merchants

The Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management released 10 online shopping safety tips for the holiday season and beyond.

The following is a Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management release sent to Patch by the Hinsdale Police Department: Cyber Monday (the Monday after Thanksgiving) and online shopping throughout the entire holiday season have become increasingly popular in recent years, and the trend is expected to continue this season. According to MarketLive, an e-commerce software and solutions provider, online shoppers in the U.S. are projected to spend more than $54 billion this holiday season, nearly a 17 percent increase over the $47 billion spent last year. The increase in online shopping coincides with an increase in mobile device use, and more shoppers will be using special holiday smartphone apps to find the best deals…

Thanks for the article. We ALL need to be more proactive about our personal account security. In this day and age we need to take responsibility of our info. If you don’t trust the site don’t use it. . But one thing that can’t be stressed enough is taking advantage of the 2FA (2-Factor Authentication).
