Can LT's auto mechanic students rebuild an engine in 28 minutes?

Student's enrolled in Lyons Township High School's auto mechanics classes will head to Michigan at the end of May with a goal of winning first place in an engine rebuild competition. Last year, LT placed 11th in the state with a time of 57 minutes to tear down and rebuild an engine. Last year the winning team managed to complete their rebuild in 29 minutes, which LT hopes to beat this year. The school recently got some help from a recently donated 355 V8 Chevrolet engine and components to train for the rebuild. Additionally, the school also recently received two car donations for use in the Auto Mechanics program: a Honda Civic Hybrid and a Volkswagen Beetle. LT will host girls soccer clinic this Saturday, hold third annual Pink Out on May 5.

From Lyons Township High School: The third annual Pink Out will be expanding to include girls soccer, softball, lacrosse and water polo. The Pink Out is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, at South Campus. The day begins with the water polo game at 8 a.m., softball at 11 a.m., lacrosse at noon, followed by soccer at 2 p.m. LTTV will cover the lacrosse and soccer games on Bennett Field, while WLTL will give play-by-play at the softball game. Proceeds from the day’s events will be donated to various charities. In addition to the Pink Out games, the girls soccer team is conducting a Little Lions Soccer Clinic for girls ages 5-13, which will focus on soccer skills and scrimmage games. Many performers dream of one day getting a chance to play on the stage at Chicago's Symphony Center. This April, students at Lyons Township High School are getting a chance to do just that. On April 9, students in LT's Sinfonietta (a medium-sized orchestra) will be under the lights on the Orchestra Hall stage at the Chicago Symphony Center. Students will also get a chance to train with the best. Brant Taylor, a DePaul University professor and a cellist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will hold a strings clinic with the group on the stage. "Fools," a play by Neil Simon will be presented by Lyons Township High School students on March 21-23.
Get ready to laugh as the Lyons Township High School Theatre Board puts on Neil Simon's comedy Fools this month. LT English teacher Ann Dudek directs and Junior Mary Kate Maney, of Western Springs, will be assistant director. Fools is the story of Leon Tolchinsky, a teacher who begins a job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When Tolchinsky comes to town he realizes the town is not what he expected: it has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years and it's up to him to break the curse. If Tochinsky stays for over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too will be taken by it. Lyons Township High School will be hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, March 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school's North Campus, located at 100 S. Brainard Ave. in La Grange. In addition to students, the event is also open to community members who wish to donate. For every pint of blood that is donated, three pints can be made. Last year, LT officials said the school's blood drives helped collect hundreds of units of blood for local hospitals. The school said walk-ins are welcome, but donors can also pre-register with the school by calling the Student Activities Office at 708-579-7444. Following the recent death of Lyons Township High School board member William F. Purcell Jr., District 204 will begin accepting applicants to fill the vacancy and finish Purcell's four-year term. Those interested in applying must be at least 18 years old, and must have lived in the district for at least one year. The applicant must also be registered to vote. The board will hold a special meeting on April 9 and 10, when candidates for the position will be interviewed during a closed session. On Monday night, the District 204 Board of Education approved their tax levy and an increase in summer fees for gymnastics and football.
Board Approves Levy Increase On Dec. 19, the District 204 Board of Education approved a 3.54 percent increase from the 2011 tax levy. Supporters from all over the western suburbs lined Spring Avenue in La Grange today to welcome home a local hero. Marine Lance Cpl. Josh Misiewicz was greeted by a chorus of "welcome home Josh" and shouts of "hero" as the car that picked him up from O'Hare Airport arrived in front of his home in La Grange. Residents made signs and waved flags to welcome home the wounded veteran of the war in Afghanistan, who looked great today as he walked from the car to the porch of his home. Misiewicz is a La Grange resident and former Lyons Township High School student and hockey player. In July, Misiewicz was seriously injured while serving in Afghanistan when he stepped on a bomb while out on patrol, which resulted in the loss of both legs and …

Lyons Township High School's annual Holiday Write Night featured face painting, letter writing to Santa and more holiday fun.
Lyons Township High School shared these photos with us of kids at their annual Holiday Write Night. At Write Night, kids were able to write a letter to Santa Claus himself using the school's Discovery Center computers and get a response back. LT students pitched in too. Over 500 student volunteers helped out at the event painting faces, decorating cookies and providing musical entertainment. The event was free, but participants were asked to bring in cans of food for donation. Over 20 boxes of food were collected and will be donated in Kelli O'Laughlin's name to two local food pantries as part of the school's ongoing food drive. Lyons Township High School teams up with Santa and his helpers for Holiday Write Night on Dec. 6
Good little boys and girls in kindergarten through third grade, can get an opportunity to write a letter to Santa Claus and receive a direct response at Lyons Township High School's South Campus on Dec. 6 for the school's annual Holiday Write Night. Families can swing by South Campus between 4-7 p.m. to write letters to Santa at the North Pole using the school's Discovery Center computers. There's no admission to the event, but families are asked to bring one non-perishable food items for donation in the spirit of the season.
