Obituary: George Earle Lane, Former La Grange Fire Chief

George Earle Lane, 75, of Davis, IL, (Lake Summerset), formerly of La Grange, IL. Beloved husband of Judy. Loving father of Lisa (James) Heim and Teresa (Richard) Lynch. Devoted grandfather of Heidi, Jimmy and Steven Heim, David, Tommy, Annie, Matthew and Michael Lynch. Dear brother of the late Roy (Lorraine), the late Duane (Louise) and the late Audrey (late Robert) Kraft. Fond uncle of many. La Grange Fire Department to Host 2 CPR Classes

The classes will be taught according to the American Heart Association 2010 standards and will include certification in the use of CPR and AED.

The following was submitted by the La Grange Fire Department:  The La Grange Fire Department has scheduled two CPR classes for 2013. All classes will be taught according to the American Heart Association 2010 standards. The class will include certification in the use of CPR and AED. Participants will receive a Course Completion Card upon successful demonstration of proper skills. Heartsaver® CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking on an adult.  This course teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills.  This…

Names, Cause of Death Released in Fire that Killed 2 in La Grange

The deceased were a 90-year-old man and his 91-year-old wife.

The La Grange Fire Department confirmed on Thursday that the two people killed in a house fire early Saturday morning on the 900 block of Kensington Avenue were Roland Martin, 90, and Eleanor Martin, 91, husband and wife. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Roland Martin died from a combination of carbon monoxide intoxication and an inhalation of smoke and soot and Eleanor Martin from inhalation injuries, both caused by the house fire. Roland Martin was pronounced dead at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at 3:32 a.m., the Chicago Tribune reported; according to the La Grange Fire Department, he had perished on the scene. Eleanor Martin, also taken to Adventist La Grange, was pronounced dead at 5:18 a.m.  “The cause …

2 Dead in Early-Morning Fire on Kensington

The man and woman were both pronounced dead at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital after the extra-alarm blaze, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A man and woman died after a three-alarm fire broke out in a home on the 900 block of Kensington Avenue in La Grange at around 1:38 p.m. on Saturday morning. The man, who was in his 90s, was pronounced dead at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at 3:32 a.m., the Chicago Tribune reported; according to the La Grange Fire Department, he had perished on the scene. The woman, also taken to Adventist La Grange, was pronounced dead at 5:18 a.m.  The names of the victims are being withheld while family is notified. Next-door neighbor Tony Kenagis told Patch his family was woken at around 2 a.m. by a police officer and relocated outside their house, which suffered some smoke damage from the blaze. Photo Gallery: La Grange, Western Springs Firefighters Live-Burn Training on Ogden

Firefighters from the Western Springs and La Grange departments got together over the weekend with the Hinsdale Fire Department to practice in a burning building.

The Hinsdale Fire Department and four other area departments. including La Grange and Western Springs, got together Saturday and Sunday for live-burn training at a vacant building at 421 E. Ogden Ave. in Hinsdale.  Hinsdale firefighter/paramedic Steve Tullis said the point of the training was to practice large-scale operations for fires that demand a multi-company response.  Tullis is the spokesman for the Hinsdale Fire Department, and he explained the event best in an email to Patch: "Oak Brook, Western Springs, La Grange and Clarendon Hills were all there to work on multi-company operations, planing for big events such as a large structure fire in Hinsdale.
