School administrators and law enforcement personnel from around La Grange and Western Springs gathered at Plymouth Place Thursday for a seminar by safety consultant Kenneth Trump.
No one wants to think about a tragedy such as the Sandy Hook shootings happening in our own schools—but it's critical to prepare for a scenario we hope will never befall us. That was the message school safety expert Kenneth Trump delivered to local school administrators and law enforcement personnel Thursday at Plymouth Place in La Grange Park. Trump is a nationally known consultant who has worked with schools in all 50 states, as well as countries such as Canada and Israel. He's a frequent TV commentator on school security issues for programs such as The Today Show, 20/20 and the CBS Evening News. John Savage, a Cicero police officer, failed to tell a man that he had HIV before they engaged in sexual activity, the Cook County Sheriff said.
A Cicero police officer was charged Thursday with criminally transmitting HIV to a man he went to the movies with in July 2012, the Cook County Sheriff said. John Savage, 38, of La Grange Park, engaged in sexual activities with a 24-year-old man at Savage’s home after their date, according to the sheriff’s release. He failed to tell the man he was HIV positive before the encounter, the sheriff said. The victim later asked if Savage was HIV positive, and when Savage said yes, the man reported the incident to La Grange police. Savage was arrested Wednesday at the La Grange Park Police Department and charged with one count of criminally transmitting HIV after La Grange Police conducted an investigation in conjunction with the sheriff’s office…

A 30-year-old homeless man and a 21-year-old Chicago man were arrested and charged with residential burglary in the northern part of the Village.
La Grange Park police report that they have arrested two man involved in a burglary on the 1400 block of Scotdale Road in La Grange Park on Thursday afternoon. Fernando Gonzales, 30, homeless, and Felipe Martinez, 21, of the 2600 block of S. Komensky Avenue, Chicago, were each charged with a Class 1 felony for residential burglary. Police had responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle around 1:00 p.m. According to La Grange Park police, the men were located sitting in a van on the 1600 block of La Grange Road with burglary tools and items from the burglarized house on Scotdale, where a rear door had been pried open.
