SUNDAY, JAN. 27 James R. Jackson, 58, of the 1400 block of Homestead Road, was stopped for erratic driving on the 1100 block of Homestead Road at 12:45 a.m. and was charged with driving with a suspended license, as well as improper lane usage and driving with only one headlight, police said. FRIDAY, JAN 25 The La Grange Park Police Department reported at 1:19 p.m. that in a recent incident, a La Grange Park grandfather was contacted by someone pretending to be his grandson asking for money; the man was not fooled by the ruse. La Grange Park Police Chief First to Complete CLEE Training

Chief Dan McCollum became the first non-Ohio police chief to receive a certification through the Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program.

Of the 250 law officers who have completed the Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program (CLEE) conducted by the State of Ohio Law Enforcement Foundation and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police since 1996, La Grange Park Police Chief Dan McCollum has become to first from outside of Ohio to do so.  McCollum, the president of the Illinois Association of Law Enforcement Executives, paid for his training in Worthington, Ohio out-of-pocket and said the program’s instruction in teacher training, ethics, leadership principles and resource allocation/budgeting will be of benefit to both him and his department. “I was very impressed by the academic rigors of the program,” McCollum said. “Since getting my master’s two years ago, this was the …

MONDAY, JAN. 21 A victim reported that she had her wallet containing credit cards and cash stolen while shopping at Jewel-Osco, “possibly while her shopping card was left unattended.” The loss was valued at less than $500. FRIDAY, DEC. 14  Someone cut the tires of two vehicles on the 1000 block of Forest Avenue at an unspecified time. THURSDAY, DEC. 6 Someone reportedly entered a car parked in the rear lot of an apartment on the 400 block of Beach Avenue and stole an unspecified amount of loose change, police said. MONDAY, DEC. 3 Police reported that in an act of criminal defacement, someone sprayed graffiti on a portable toilet in Yena Park. The nature of the graffiti and time of the incident were not reported. According to police, someone grabbed a woman's purse as she was getting into her car and fled in an unknown direction on the 400 block of Sherwood Avenue. Thieves Stealing La Grange Park Sewer Grates

The La Grange Park Police Department said that five village sewer grates have vanished since the end of November

Five sewer grates, together valued at more than $1,000, have disappeared from La Grange Park streets since late November, the La Grange Park Police Department reported on Thursday. The incidents are believed to have taken place in the early morning hours. The department said that most of the thefts in La Grange Park have involved rectangular crates along a curb, but that there is the possibilty that thieves might also take a manhole cover, leaving a dangerous pit in the road. Similar thefts have been reported in Westchester, Forest Park, Broadview, North Riverside and Hillside. SATURDAY, DEC. 1 Police said Thomas W. McClain, 29, of the 1200 block of Eagle Bluff Road in Bourbonnais, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing and eluding a peace officer after a traffic stop at the corner of La Grange Road and Madison Avenue. The defendant’s vehicle was originally flagged in connection with speeding on the 900 block of La Grange Road but, according to police, he did not pull over for seven blocks despite repeated opportunities to do so.
