ARREST WARRANTS: Wanted in Western Springs

There are warrants out for the arrest of a number of accused criminals in and around Western Springs. Patch highlights a few of them.

The following individuals are listed under the Cook County Warrants Search for the zip code 60525: Michael Billett, 57, is wanted on a disorderly conduct charge. Bail was set at $10,000. His last known address was the 9900 block of Lorraine Drive in Countryside. The warrant was issued Oct. 29, 2010. Joseph Bocek, 27, is wanted on charges of theft and possession of a controlled substance. Bail was set at $25,000. His last known address was 5700 block of South East in Countryside. The warrant was issued July 19, 2012. Edward Brown, 53, is wanted on a violation of supervision charge. Bail was set at $10,000. His last known address was the 8700 block of Lyons Street in Hodgkins. Thieves Stealing La Grange Park Sewer Grates

The La Grange Park Police Department said that five village sewer grates have vanished since the end of November

Five sewer grates, together valued at more than $1,000, have disappeared from La Grange Park streets since late November, the La Grange Park Police Department reported on Thursday. The incidents are believed to have taken place in the early morning hours. The department said that most of the thefts in La Grange Park have involved rectangular crates along a curb, but that there is the possibilty that thieves might also take a manhole cover, leaving a dangerous pit in the road. Similar thefts have been reported in Westchester, Forest Park, Broadview, North Riverside and Hillside. SATURDAY, SEPT. 1 Police charged Zacharias C. Leonard, 40, of the 200 block of Briarwood Loop in Oak Brook, with driving under the influence, no insurance and being parked in the road at about 1:30 a.m. near 31st Street and the Indian Harbor Belt Railroad tracks. FRIDAY, AUG. 31 Alma L. Velazquez, 37, of the 1500 block of Homestead Avenue, was charged with driving without a valid license and disobeying a traffic signal following an accident at 4:55 p.m. at 31st Street and Forest Road, police said. Laptop Stolen in Smash and Grab: Western Springs Police Blotter

SUNDAY, SEPT. 9 An unlocked and unattended men's bike was stolen sometime between 10 a.m. and noon. The bike had an estimated value of $150 and was left in a church bike rack on the 5000 block of Caroline Avenue. FRIDAY, SEPT. 7 A laptop computer was reported stolen from a car at 4:09 a.m. on the 4100 block of Central Avenue. The locked car was entered when the offender smashed the rear passenger window during the early morning hours. Police don't know the value of the computer at this time. A 15-year-old Western Springs boy was arrested and charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor on the 4900 block of Gilbert Avenue at 7:33 p.m., police said. SUNDAY, AUG. 5 An 18-year-old Willow Springs man was issued a local ordinance citation for being a minor in possession of alcohol at 1:37 a.m. after police were called and responded to a "fight in progress" near the corner of Grand Avenue and Hillgrove Avenue. No other arrests or injuries were reported. THURSDAY, AUG. 2 A 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both of Indian Head Park, were issued local ordinance citations at 12:50 p.m. for "alarming and causing a disturbance" to others at the downtown Western Springs train station. SUNDAY, JULY 29 An unknown offender damaged several landscaping solar lights in a residential yard on the 4800 block of Central Avenue at around 11 p.m. Saturday. The incident was reported at 9:07 a.m. Sunday. The damage was estimated at $25. Police charged a 19-year-old Western Springs woman with consumption of alcohol by a minor after officers said they found her intoxicated on the 4600 block of Wolf Road at 5:32 a.m. A 17-year-old Western Springs boy was issued two local ordinance citations for theft and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 1:35 a.m. after police stopped him on the 4700 block of Lawn Avenue and confirmed that he had been drinking and had stolen the skateboard from a front porch. I don't recall the drinking age in IL ever being 18...when was that? I went to college in the early 70's. One of the reasons WI was so popular as an out of state destination was that the drinking age there was 18.   more ›

SATURDAY, JULY 21 An unknown offender damaged three mail boxes on the 5200 block of Commonwealth Drive. The crime was reported to police at 1:27 a.m. The value of the damage was not estimated. Police were called to the 700 block of Hillgrove Avenue at 9:13 a.m. for a "dispute over services" between a business owner and a customer. Wednesday, May 9, 6:54 p.m.; Retail Theft:  Laura M. Bennefield, 26, of Lockport, Ill., was charged with retail theft after a follow-up investigation confirmed she had stolen some items at a local Dominick's on April 2, 2012.  Saturday, May 12, 3:00 a.m.; DUI and Traffic Violation:  Frank E. Messino, 42, of the 4500 block of Wolf Road in Western Springs, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage. Reports said Messino was stopped for the traffic violation and was observed by the arresting officer to be glassy-eyed the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol. An attempt to raid a park concession stand and a stolen ladder wind up last week's police blotter.

Friday, May 11 — Damage to a concession stand door on the lower level of Spring Rock Park in the 1300 block of Burlington Avenue was reported to police at 5:09 p.m. Reports estimate the incident happened sometime between Thursday and Friday.  Saturday, May 12 — An unattended 16-foot fiberglass ladder was reported missing from a private rear residential yard in the 5300 block of Grand Avenue. The report estimates the theft happened sometime between 3:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
