CNN Money reported Monday the average price for a gallon of gasoline in America is $3.73. Gas prices are 26 to 66 cents higher in the La Grange/Western Springs area.

Most motorists have noticed the price of gasoline has risen dramatically over the past month. CNN Money reported Monday that the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in America has increased more than 13 percent over the past 32 days, to $3.73. As of Tuesday morning, gas prices in the La Grange/Western Springs area ranged from $3.99 at the SuperSonic in Countryside at La Grange Road and 53rd Street, to $4.39 at Mobil in Western Springs at 5500 Wolf Road and 55th Street, according to GasBuddy.com. CNN Money is crediting the price increase to a combination of factors, including rising crude oil prices, production cuts and refinery closings.  The Chicago Tribune reported last week a number of refinery issues in the area have …

Find a Pet-Sitter Around La Grange/Western Springs

A request for a local pet-sitter turned into one of the most popular posts on the La Grange Patch and Western Springs Patch Facebook pages.

We at La Grange Patch and Western Springs Patch were rather taken by surprise when our Facebook call-out for at-home pet-sitters in the area got a bucketload of responses. All we were looking for was a sitter for Emily Logue, whose beagle really doesn't care for kennels, but we got so many responses that it made sense to compile them into an article! If you're heading out of town and need someone to look after your pooch, kitty or other furry/feathered/fishy/other friend, try any of the following: Did we miss yours, or your favorites? Brookfield Amputee, Lost Leg Working for Countryside, Gets New High-Tech Prosthetic

The BiOM, a powered prosthetic device that gives amputees are more realistic feeling of walking was recently fitted to two patients in Oak Park.

When Randy Earl returns to work today as a volunteer at the Shedd Aquarium, he'll have a little added support. Earl, 64, is a 25-year amputee from Joliet. Doctors removed part of his right arm below the elbow and part of his right leg below the knee following an accident on the job. Earl was electrocuted while working on a power line for ComEd, which required the amputations. Since then, he's tried a number of prosthetics, and so, he said he was skeptical about his doctor's latest idea for him to try a new product, and become the first man in the Chicago area to wear a BiOM—a new powered prosthetic device by iWalk.  "I've been kind of the guinea pig around here," Earl said recently at Scheck and Siress in Oak Park where he was getting his …

It’s great the some scenes of “The Mob Doctor” was filmed at The Flame, I’m going to have to check it out during the upcoming fall season. My new Dish Hopper will be working overtime recording all the new shows and favorites so I can see what will be on my viewing rotation. I can record all the shows I can handle with more than enough space on my DVR. I think “The Mob Doctor” will be a water-…   more ›
