Village Nixes Assault Weapons Ban Ordinance

Village Board turns down ordinance that would ban assault weapons, the Doings reports.

The Western Springs Village Board on Monday voted to reject an ordinance banning assault weapons, the Doings Western Springs reported Tuesday.

Village President William Rodeghier told the Doings the issue came up as a result of the Illinois General Assembly's passing of the conceal and carry bill.

The General Assembly on Tuesday voted to override Gov. Pat Quinn's amendatory veto of the regulation.

Rodeghier told the Doings that Cook County already has a ban on assault weapons, and any action taken by the village would be "redundant."
